Russia—Zapad Drills With Belarus Kick Off In Nizhny Novgorod

Belarus and Russia have begun their biennial Zapad joint exercise, reports the Tass news agency (Moscow). The Zapad (West) drills began on Friday with a ceremony in Nizhny Novgorod and are scheduled to conclude on Sept. 16, the Russian Defense Ministry said. The training is taking place at nine sites in Russia, the Baltic Sea and five sites in Belarus.
