IJU is a splinter group of the IMU. Najmiddin Jalolov was an IMU member convicted in absentia by Uzbekistan in 2000 and founded the group as IJG in March 2002. The group changed its name to IJU in May 2005. IJU’s primary goal has been to overthrow the Uzbek government, but it has also adopted a global jihad agenda and conducted attacks on foreign forces in Afghanistan and Central Asia as well as attacks in Europe.
