RSRBCM was linked to two other Chechen terrorist organizations: the Special Purpose Islamic Regiment (SPIR) and the International Islamic Brigade (IIB). The group appeared to be a result of a marriage of the two. All were led at one time by Chechen militant Shamil Basayev.
