Based on the PT-76 light tank chassis, the BTR-50 was the principal tracked APC in the Soviet army for most of the 1960s and 1970s. It is now been replaced in Russian army service by the BMP-2 and newer BTRs. The BTR-50 has a short, nearly flat nose and a shallow glacis.
