The Mk 60 CAPTOR was the U.S. Navy's principal anti-submarine mine laid in a barrier pattern in deep water by aircraft or submarines. Each CAPTOR mine consisted of a container holding a threat analyzer and acoustic signature library, a Mk 46 Mod 4 anti-submarine warfare (ASW) torpedo and an anchor. As the container descended, it paid out the anchor, which droped to the sea floor. The container found its preset surveillance depth and "floated" vertically at the upper end of its tether....
