Units MHV-801 through MHV-806 were ordered in May 1991; MHV-807 through MHV-812, in July 1992; and MHV-813 through MHV-818, in March 1993. Unit 818 was later renumbered to MHV-851. They replaced the older Home Guard patrol craft that dated to the 1920s. The contract has an option for an additional seven, which would have brought the total to 25 units, as originally planned.
