The MOSKVA class is primarily an anti-ship cruiser, armed with SS-N-12 Sandbox (P-500 Bazalt) anti-ship missiles. The ships in the class were the first specialized anti-ship cruisers built by the Soviets since the vessels of the KYNDA class were completed in the early 1960s. These ships were built simultaneously with the larger ADMIRAL USHAKOV-class nuclear-propelled battle cruisers, which they are thought to complement. The warships are designated as raketnyy kreyser (missile cruiser)...
