OVERVIEW The Angolan navy is largely a coastal defense force, lacking oceangoing and amphibious capabilities. What aviation support can be provided comes from the Angolan air force, which operates a few maritime patrol/search-and-rescue aircraft units. A major maritime function is interior river patrol.   PERSONNEL STRENGTH The total active manpower of the Angolan navy is approximately 1,000.
