OVERVIEW The Nicaraguan navy is primarily a coastal patrol and minesweeping force, with a small marine infantry contingent. The navy is divided into two major commands (Pacific and Atlantic). There is also a battalion-sized amphibious force.   It is focused on conducting search-and-rescue missions and interdicting shipments of illegal drugs near the coasts. PERSONNEL STRENGTH Total active navy strength is 800 personnel.
