OVERVIEW The air force and air defense force in Belarus were merged in 2002 to form the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense (AFAD). Russia and Belarus signed an agreement in February 2009 establishing an integrated regional air defense network -- with five air force units, 10 anti-aircraft units, five support units and an electronic warfare unit.
