OVERVIEW Lebanon is bordered north and east by Syria, south by Israel and west by the Mediterranean Sea. There is a broad spectrum of religions in Lebanon, including Maronite Christians, Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims, Greek Orthodox and Druze. After its 16-year civil war ended in October 1990, Lebanon made substantial progress toward rebuilding its political, economic and military infrastructure. In southern Lebanon, almost 22 years of Israeli occupation came to an end on July 7, 2000....
