OVERVIEW The Portuguese navy (Marinha Portuguesa) is organized into one major command and five subordinate maritime zone commands. The subordinate command zones are: the Azores, Madeira, North, Center and South.   PERSONNEL STRENGTH The total active manpower of the Portuguese navy is 9,850.
