OVERVIEW Ecuador's navy has both marine and aviation components in addition to its fleet and shore establishment. The marine contingent consists of one commando company and five garrison battalions, which conduct counterinsurgency missions almost exclusively on Ecuador's inland waterways. PERSONNEL STRENGTH Approximately 9,100 personnel serve in the navy, including 2,150 marines and 380 naval aviators.
