OVERVIEW The Burmese navy (officially Tamdaw Yay) is primarily a river patrol force, with limited inshore operations in the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea. Coastal surveillance and fisheries protection operations have been emphasized along the southernmost Tenasserim Division, where poaching and contraband smuggling is rampant.
