OVERVIEW The Sultanate of Oman is a Middle Eastern country consisting of a large territory on the Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea and a smaller territory on the Musandam peninsula, jutting into the Strait of Hormuz. The Musandam peninsula is separated from Oman proper by a portion of the United Arab Emirates, which extends eastward to the Gulf of Oman.
