OVERVIEW The Croatian air force and air defense -- Hrvatsko Ratno Zrakoplovstvo i Protuzracna Obrana (HRZ i PZO) -- was formed using former federal Yugoslav air force (JRV) assets in late 1991. When the former Republic of Yugoslavia disintegrated into civil war in 1991, virtually all air assets of the Yugoslav National Army (JNA) were seized by the Serbs. Accordingly, Croatia found itself at war with a virtually non-existent air force; military personnel resorted to pushing bombs...
